    To make a comparison of maternal behavior by using the Schaefer's MBRI, the authours investigated the mothers of 25 hospitalized and 6 outpatients conduct disorder adolescents in Seoul National Mental Hospital during the period from June, 1, 1987 to April 30, 1989 and compared the mothers of normal control of 31 mentally healthy middle and high school students in Seoul during the same period in relation with the demographic characteristics, symtom onset age, admission period, and the externalization profile of Achenbach's CBCL.
    The results were as follows ;
    1) In the mean score of general maternal behavior, the mothers of conduct disorder showed statistically lower score than the mothers of normal control. This means that the mothers of conduct disorder have less desirable maternal behavior than mothers of normal control.
    2) In factors of 7 maternal behaviors by using the factor analysis of Schaefer's MBRI, the mothers of conduct disorder showed statistically less affective, more rejective, more in-trojective, evaluated more negatively, and fosterd more dependency of their children than the mothers of normal control.
    3) As older were the mothers of both groups, the mothers of conduct disorder showed more hostile attitude and the mothers of normal control showed more affective attitude to their children. As the mothers education level rise, they showed less control attiude in both groups, and the mothers of conduct disorder showed less control attitude than the mothers of normal control.
    4) The mothers of conduct disorder above the mean score in delinquency showed less affective, more introverted, and evaluated their children more negatively than the mothers of normal control below the mean score in delinquency.
    5) In the multiple regression analysis, the mothers of conduct disorder's rejective atti-tude is most related to conduct disorder group above the mean score in delinquency. The mothers of conduct disorder, whether they have occupation or not, showed more rejective attitude to their children than the motheres of normal control. The mothers of conduct di-sorder's attitude fostering dependency of their children were most related to the conduct disorder group above the mean score in aggressiveness. The mothers of conduct disorder whose children had the symtoms in adolescent period showed more fostering dependency, more control, more maternal dependency attitude to their children than the mothers of co-nduct disorder whose children had the symtoms in childhood period. The true mothers of conduct disorder showed more maternal dependency attitude to their children than the stepmothers of conduct disorder. All the mothers of conduct disorder showed more mater-nal dependency attitude than the truemothers of normal control. There was no stepmothers in the normal control.
