      This study aims to explain the characteristics of Hyundai Motor Company`s production system(= Hyundai Production System), relating to the characteristics of its labor relations. Hyundai Motor Company has shifted to f lexible production s ystem, closely i nteracting with Hyundai`s confrontational labor relations since the late 1980s. How has Hyundai Motor Company succeeded in converting from mass production system to flexible production system and increased its market share in the world market, interacting with its confrontational labor relations? This study adopts the theory of systemic rationalization to explain the characteristics of Hyundai Production System. According to this theory, automobile c ompanies d epend on t he f lexible potentiality o f technolog y rather than labor. Hyundai Motor Company has adopted the trend of systemic rationalization to shift to flexible production system. However, the characteristics of i ts l abor r elations h ave been s ig nificantly c hang ed into collusive one, maintaining its confrontational characteristics since 2000s. The strengthening of collusive labor relations has made Hyundai Motor Company shift to the flexible production system smoothly.
