고성오광대 문둥북춤에 나타난 지역성에 관한 연구 = A Study on the Locality Shown in Goseong Five-Clown Leper Drum Dance

This study was focused on ascertaining a locality through Goseong Five-Clown Leper Drum Dance, one of the traditional dances in which Korean traits are distinctly expressed. Since dance is the surface culture of human life, looking for the character of a region expressed through dance is a way to discover the identity of our dance. Therefore, this study, as the first step of the plan, analyzes the relationship between the dances of Mundunbukchum of Goseongogwangdae and the regional characters, by studying the relevant literature and video documents. The results are the followings. First, its motion had been arranged with local characteristics over time. Such characteristics are distinctly shown in realistic expression and descriptive construction. Second, connection and diversion, the unique factors of the dances of the residents in Southern Gyeongsang Province, and impromptuness, periodical repetitivity and nonspeaking solo dances, the characteristics of the Leper Drum Dance express local characteristics well. Third, the locality is well shown in the significance of snare drums and the conflict between lepers, and also Goseong Five-Clown Leper Drum Dance is esthetically significant even in performing arts. Fourth, the form has reduced and established into a one-man dance while it flew into the local culture from the preceding region as a local cultural character. Fifth, the regional character of Gos대ng was derived through the realistic descriptive movement such as “Picking the ears of barley.” Sixth, the communications between entertainers and the audience took place in the Madang, a large circular space which the public entertainment culture is easily accessible to in the Goseong region that does not have hilly areas but much extensive field. On this wise, the general construction of the Leper Drum Dance and its motion were analyzed concurrently with local characteristics, and conversely, the locality was ascertained on the basis of the result. It is considered that such researches are significant in various aspects. Consequently, local dances should be continuouslyprotected and studied in respect that local characteristics have been expressed through dances and locality has been changed proportionally with the change of dancing characteristics.
