정치교육의 기본적인 문제로서 정서와 합리성의 관계 = Relationship between Emotion and Rationality as a Central Problem of Political Education

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글의 목적은 정치교육의 기본적인 문제로서 정서와 합리성의 관계를 살펴보는 데 놓여 있다. 본 논문에서 부각시키고자 하는 핵심적인 사항은 다음과 같이 정식화하여 제시할 수 있다. 첫째, 사회정치현상을 합리적으로 취급한다는 의미에서 정치교육은 일차적으로 계몽주의의 전통에 입각하고 있지만, 정서적인 측면에도 주의를 기울이고 교육의 과정을 다차원적으로 바라볼 수 있는 안목이 필요한 것으로 보인다. 둘째, 정치교육에서 정서의 방향성을 어떻게 설정해야 할 것인가의 질문과 관련하여, 합리적인 요소와 정서적인 요소를 결합하고, 많은 사람들의 감정에 부응할 수 있는 헌정애국주의를 정치교육의 중요한 목표로 추구해야 할 것으로 보인다. 셋째, 도덕적인 원칙을 정서와 감정에서 바로 도출하려는 경향에 대해 조심스러운 태도를 취하고, 합리적인 판단력보다 감정과 도덕에 경도된 심정이 우위를 차지하는 경우를 경계할 필요가 있다. 감정과 도덕이 합리적인 판단력을 대체할 경우 정치교육의 바람직하지 못한 문제점이 늘어날 수 있다는 우려가 있다. 넷째, 정서적인 요소들을 합리적으로 처리하고 통제하는 것을 정치교육의기본적인 준칙으로 삼아야 한다. 정서에 대한 합리적인 통제가 의문시되고 비합리주의로 넘어갈 경우, 정서를 비합리성과 구별하고 분리시키는 방어벽이 무너질지도 모른다는 우려가 남아 있다. 다섯째, 정서와 합리성을 고려한 방법적 실천방안으로서 공동체교육, 심미적 학습, 사례분석, 간문화학습을 통한 통일교육을 본보기로 들 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this article is to share the result of a study that focused on the relationship between emotion and rationality in the sense of getting down to the nitty-gritty of political education. The upshot of this treatise can be formulated as follows: First, political education is based in the first place on the tradition of Enlightenment in the sense of discussing or treating social and political phenomena rationally, but emotional aspect should be also addressed from multi-dimensional perspectives. Second, regarding the question of setting the direction of emotion in political education, it seems to be necessary to pay attention to constitutional patriotism as an important goal or objective in the sense of combining rational and emotional elements appropriately. Third, political educator should pay attention to caveat against the tendency to derive moral principles lightly or directly from emotion or feeling and to put primacy on sentiment or moral over rational judgment abilities. Fourth, we should consider treating and controlling emotional elements rationally as a basic maxim of political education in the sense of keeping fire wall against the danger of emotion unintentionally turning into irrationality. Fifth, we can regard, for example, community education, aesthetic learning, case analysis and unification education based on intercultural learning as relevant methodological alternatives or approaches of political education considering both emotion and rationality.
