This study is to develop an assessment model of parent and child interaction through the observation in free play situation.
When a child is referred in play therapy, therapists gathered the information from taking psychological test and observing the child's behavior, and asking the parents about their children. Because the present problems of children were influenced from parent's child caring attitude and the relation of parents and children, play therapists must know the information about parent-child interaction when they want to establish the therapy goal and therapeutic intervention.
This study had two steps. First, it was analyzed the 24 taped recording films about mother-child interaction in free play situation. Subjects were 18 preschool child-mother dyads who were referred in play therapy because of emotional or developmental problems. Second, it was suggested an assessment model of parent-child interaction after analyzing the 24 taped recording films. The contents of an assessment model of parent-child interaction are consisted with observing and evaluating an initiation of play, emotional bonding of parent-child, playful of play, and play together with parent and child in free-play situation.
