The subjective paintings embodied in Bada Shanren's works can be estimated that he had transcended the real world orgulously. As it is the result of the interaction with Seonists, he showed his paintings and calligraphic works through timeless exceptional paintings regardless of class.
When looking at the history from China's Tang Dynasty to Ming and Qing Dynasty, it is no exaggeration to say that Seond had the influence of painting history. Entering the Ming Dynasty, this became an era in which thought that originated from Seon became deep rooted and led the history of painting with theory by increasing the tendency to discuss the general mind through things. At the time, the Chinese painting reflecting the trend of the times would have had a great influence on Bada Shanren. Therefore, it seeks to find and identify Seon’s elements in his painting style by looking at his anxious past feelings through his paintings.
In this study, it reviews the consistency of scripture and analyzes his ideas and reason through Bada Shanren's Seon paintings and calligraphic works. Thus, if existing Bada Shanren's researches were dominated by the studies of painting history, this study seeks to find Zen influence of Buddhism in the painting style and the reason of Bada Shanren through scripture.
Bada Shanren, one of the four high-priest painters, mainly painted paintings with a tendency of Seon painting and is also a representative painter who created original painting style. This study aims to reveal the painting style that are blow, diary, and one-stroke paintings of Banda Shanren who rose above the world at the inter-compatible art with Seon through scripture.
