Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine whether gratitude disposition and perceived stress affect aging anxiety among middle-aged women, and to investigate whether perceived stress mediates the relationship between gratitude disposition and aging anxiety. Methods To achieve this purpose, a total of 300 middle-aged women from across the country participated in an online survey assessing gratitude disposition, perceived stress, and aging anxiety. Bootstrapping analyses were conducted using the SPSS PROCESS Macro (Model 4) to test the mediating effect of perceived stress. Results Dispositional gratitude significantly influenced perceived stress, and both dispositional gratitude and perceived stress were found to exert significant effects on aging anxiety. Furthermore, the bootstrapping analysis revealed a partial mediating effect of perceived stress in the relationship between dispositional gratitude and aging anxiety. Conclusion Gratitude disposition among middle-aged women may alleviate aging anxiety by reducing perceived stress. This study empirically clarified the structural relationships among gratitude disposition, perceived stress, and aging anxiety, offering foundational evidence for the development of preventive and intervention-based psychological programs targeting aging anxiety in middle-aged women.
