다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract) kakao i 다국어 번역

It examines the history, cultural background, and meaning of symbolic jewelry for love and mourning, which was popular in England in the 18th and 19th centuries. By examining various examples of sentimental jewelry that have been used to mark the journey of human life, such as courtship and marriage, farewell to loved ones and mourning over death, this paper aims to analyze them in relation to the modern consumerist cultures that seek emotional satisfaction based on the theories of contemporary cultural theorist Colin Campbell (1940-), The historical background of how sentimental jewelry became popular is as follows. First, the marriage culture of the 18th century developed from the socioeconomic solidarity between the families of the previous era to the bond based on the affection of one man and woman. Second, under the influence of the Romantic movement that arose against the rationalism of the Enlightenment, it was taken for granted to express feelings of love and sadness naturally, and it became fashionable to give and receive small symbolic gifts. Third, the concept of modern consumerism, in which the essential activity of consumption is more important than material value, is the imaginative enjoyment of a product has been developed. With such a social background, sentimental jewelry that expresses love and loss of a loved one through romantic words, hearts, flower language, and symbolic representations such as specific jewels, animals, and body images became popular. The various examples examined in this thesis argue that sentimental consumption was centered on the middle class during the Victorian era, and that jewelry was at the center of it.
