채만식 소설의 이분법(二分法) : (여성 인물의 형상화 양상을 중심으로) = The dichotomy of Chae Man-sik's novel － Focusing on the representation of female characters －

국문 초록 (Abstract)

채만식의 문학 전체를 관통하는 키워드는 세 가지로 압축할 수가 있다. 그것은 ‘돈(자본)’, ‘민족’ 그리고 ‘여성’이다. 그 가운데 신분이나 계층 여하를 막론하고 ‘여성’의 삶을 형상화한 작품의 비중이 가장 크다고 할 수가 있다. 이때 채만식의 소설은 낡은 것을 지양하고 새로운 것을 지향하는 신구의 대립에서 언제나 새로운 사람을 중심으로 새로운 세대가 새로운 시대를 열어가야 함을 암시하거나 기대케 하는 열린 결말로 작품이 마무리가 되며, 이것은 일반적이라고 할 만큼 보편적으로 나타나는 현상이기도 하다. 따라서 이러한 특징을 채만식 문학이 지닌 독특한 ‘이분법(二分法)’으로 명명해도 손색이 없을 듯하다. 작가의 이분법은 말하고자 하는 바가 선행한 상태에서 그리고자 하는 이분법적 세계를 상정하고 자신의 생각을 읽어 주기를 바라는 마음에서 독자의 입장을 고려하여 알레고리와 풍자(Satire)를 활용하는 서사 전략을 보였다. 따라서 채만식이야말로 알레고리와 풍자를 결합한 글쓰기를 가장 효과적으로 활용한 작가라고 할 수가 있다. 본고는 이러한 양상을 시어머니와 며느리의 관계, 조혼과 상반되는 신여성과의 자유연애, 구여성과 신여성의 대비 등에서 나타난 여성 인물의 형상화 양상을 중심으로 고찰했다. 또한 작가의 이분법이 가장 선명하면서도 효과적으로 발휘가 된 <탁류>를 분석함으로써, 이분법이 채만식의 문학에서 중요한 서사 전략임을 확인하고자 했다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The key words that penetrate Chae Man-sik's novel can be compressed into three categories. It is ‘money(capital)’, ‘ethnicity’ and ‘female’. Among them, it can be said that the proportion of works that embody the life of ‘women’ is the most. In the novel, women appear regardless of status or class. At this time, Chae Man-sik's novel shows the confrontation between the old and the new to avoid the old and pursue the new. To be more specific, the work ends with an open ending that suggests or makes expectations that a new generation should open a new era, always centering on a new person. This is a phenomenon that is so common that it is said to be common. This characteristic can also be called as the unique “dichotomy'” of Chae Man-sik's literature. Even if you name it like that, it seems to be inferior. With the advent of this dichotomy, allegory and satire are combined in the way to shape it. Chae Man-sik seems to be the most effective author of writing that combines allegory and satire. In order to confirm this aspect, this paper considered the female characters in the novel. For example, the relationship between the mother-in-law and the daughter-in-law, the relationship with the new woman in contrast to the early marriage, the relationship between the old woman and the new woman. And I analyzed the “Tark-ryu” in which the dichotomy of Chae Man-sik's novel was most obvious and effective. As a result, it was confirmed that the dichotomy was an important narrative strategy in Chae Man-sik's literature.
