언어학 연구 방법 및 방향에 대한 소견 = On Desirable Research Methods in Generative Linguistics

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The research methods in generative linguistics have changed as the viewpoints of UG vary and rules and principles suggested have been validated based upon the concept of UG. Given the relatively short history of human language, UG couldn’t have evolved to be so complex a system as postulated in the GB theory. Hence, the GB theory has been replaced by the minimalist theory. Firmly believing that the minimalist theory may successfully lay stepping stones for UG and that the efforts to make UG smaller may lead us to the solutions for both the Plato’s problem and the Darwin’s problem, we propose that desirable research methods be those which faithfully follow the minimalist concept. We also suggest that generative linguists in Korea seek ways to increase the practicality of the theoretical research works; linguists are asked to meet the practical needs of the current age.
