스리랑카 전래동화의 구조와 내용, 그리고 문화적 상징 = The Structures, Contents and the Cultural Symbols in Sri Lankan Traditional Fairy Tales

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research is aimed to translate, introduce Sri Lankan traditional fairy tales and analyze the structures and contents of the stories. Additionally it is aimed to categorize the cultural symbols according to the common denominators of culture and chase the hidden meaning of the cultural symbols to understand their culture itself. Firstly, the main characters are mostly adult farmer, the backgrounds of time are always uncertain time, and the backgrounds of spaces are mostly familiar farm villages. The stories reveal simple, basic structures and are ended completely whether the ending is happy or not. Secondly, the main topics of Sri Lankan traditional fairy tales are mostly about wisdom and cost of foolishness. Mostly, the problems of stories are solved by himself(main characters) or others` help. Finally, traditional fairy tales are connoted to search cultural symbols. Moreover, it is possible to understand the way of life and the culture by chasing and interpreting the cultural symbols which were hidden in the traditional fairy tales.
