지방 빈곤청년 담론과 현실의 간극: 언론보도 토픽모델링과 당사자·활동가 인터뷰 분석 = The Gap between Discourse and Reality of Rural Poor Youth: Topic Modeling of Media Coverage and Interviews with Youth and Activists

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 빈곤청년과 관련한 언론보도를 토픽모델링하여 형성된 사회적 담론을 분석하고 이를 지방 빈곤청년과 지원 활동가의 심층 인터뷰에 적용하여 비교 분석함으로써 담론과 현실 사이의 교차와 간극을 드러내고자 하였다. 이를 위해 빈곤+청년’, ‘지방+청년’, ‘경남+청년을 검색어로 수집한 언론보도 텍스트를 토픽모델링하여 ‘청년의 공간문제’, ‘청년의 자기성장비용’, ‘일자리와 취업’, ‘세대빈곤’, ‘지방청년의 실패학’ 이라는 5개의 주제를 도출하였다. 이어 청년인구 유출률이 높은 경남 지역의 빈곤청년과 빈곤청년 지원활동가를 대상으로 5개의 주제에 대한 심층 인터뷰를 실시하여 언론 담론과 이들의 진술을 비교 분석하였다. 분석결과, 5개의 주제에 대해 ‘물리적으로 불편하고 익명성 보장 없는 공간’, ‘성장기회 확보와 지원체계 서비스의 상충’, ‘빈약한 취업처’, ‘결혼과 가족공동체를 기대하지 않음’, ‘실패하면 절벽’ 등 12개의 핵심개념이 확인되었다. 본 연구는 수도권 중심의 청년 연구가 포착하지 못한 지방 빈곤청년의 제약과 과업을 밝혔으며 이를 토대로 지역 맞춤형 실천 및 정책방향을 제시하였다.

This study analyzed the social discourse on poor youth through topic modeling of news reports, and compared it with the lived experiences and perceptions of poor youth in rural regions and support activists. News articles were collected using the keywords “poverty + youth,” “rural + youth,” and “Gyeongnam + youth,” and topic modeling identified five major themes: spatial issues of youth, the cost of self-development, employment and job seeking, intergenerational poverty, and the study of failure among rural youth. Based on these themes, in-depth interviews were conducted with poor youths and support activists in Gyeongnam—a region with a high rate of youth outmigration—to compare media discourse with first-hand testimonies. The analysis revealed 12 core themes, including inconvenient and insecure spaces lacking anonymity, conflicts between growth opportunities and support services, scarcity of job opportunities, avoidance of marriage and family formation, and the cliff effect of failure. This study highlights the constraints and tasks that Seoul-centered youth research has overlooked and suggests practice and policy directions tailored to the regional context.
