돌봄의 틀에 갇힌 가족돌봄청년의 경험에 관한 탐색: 인천 지역을 중심으로 = An Exploration of Young Carers’ Lives within the Constraints of Caregiving: Focusing on Young Adult Carers in Incheon

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 인천지역에 거주하는 가족돌봄청년이 돌봄제공자의 역할에 고착된 채 살아가는 청년들의 경험을 탐색하여 이들의 삶에 대한 학문적 이해의 폭을 확장하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 인천에 거주하는 가족돌봄청년들을 대상으로 심층면접을 실시했으며 수집된 자료는 주제분석방법을 활용하여 분석했다. 분석 결과 6개의 주제와 18개의 범주가 도출되었으며 이는 1)준비되지 않은 돌봄의 자리, 2)급격히 기울어진 돌봄의 일상, 3)돌봄이 가져온 중첩된 곤란, 4)끝이 보이지 않는 돌봄의 터널, 5)미래가 유예된 가족돌봄청년, 6)가족돌봄청년의 버팀목 등이다. 종합적으로 인천 거주 가족돌봄청년들은 관계와 시간, 물질적, 정서적 빈곤 속에서 돌봄의 틀에 갇혀 과거 현재를 살아왔으며 또한 이들의 미래는 잠정 보류한 채 오늘을 살아가는 것으로 파악되었다. 본 연구의 함의는 가족돌봄청년을 위한 지원이 통합적으로 동시에 다각적으로 마련되어야 함을 시사하며 궁극적으로 이들이 돌봄의 틀에서 벗어나 건강한 성인으로서 자신의 삶을 살아가기 위한 발판과 토대를 마련할 수 있는 지원 체계가시급하다는 것이다.

This study aimed to explore the lived experiences of young carers in Incheon. In-depth interviews were conducted with young carers, and the collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis. As a result, six themes and 18 meaning units were derived: (1) the unprepared position of caregiving, (2) the disrupted life due to caregiving responsibilities, (3) the compounded hardships created by caregiving, (4) the endless tunnel of care, (5) the deferred future of young carers, and (6) the pillar of support for young carers. Overall, the findings revealed that young carers in Incheon live their past and present lives confined to their caregiving responsibilities, experiencing relational, temporal, financial, and emotional deprivation. Their futures remain temporarily suspended, as they struggle to live through the present. These results suggest the need for comprehensive and multidimensional support systems for young carers. The findings also call for policies and services to further assist them in building a foundation that allows them to move beyond the constraints of caregiving and start building healthy, independent lives.
