Fuel quality adaptation is used to reduce HC emission for the SULEV regulation and it is also used to compensate more fuel amount with lower volatility fuel for better driveability. A purpose of this paper is to control the fuel amount of cold start and fast idle phase according to the fuel type of volatility characteristics. Basically, fuel amount is calibrated with FTP emission fuel, which results in about 40% reduction of HC emission at FTP-75 mode. Even if very low volatility fuel used, it is possible to respond with driveability by fuel quality adaptation, The fuel amount could be increased depending on fuel volatility as it required.
