국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구의 목적은 『H마트에서 울다』의 문화특정항목 번역 사례를 중심으로, AI/기계번역과 인간 번역이 텍스트 결속성과 문화적 맥락을 어떻게 구현하는지 비교 분석하고, 영어와 한국어의 결속성 차이에 대한 학습자의 인식을 조사하여 AI시대의 문화특정항목 번역 교육이 가지는 함의를 고찰하는 데 있다. 나아가 학습자가 텍스트 결속성과 문화적 요소를 더 깊이 이해하고, 다양한 번역 전략을 모색할 수 있는 교육적 방안을 제안하는 것을 목표로 한다. 문화특정항목은 특정 언어·문화에 고유하게 존재하거나 그 안에 문화적 함의를 담고 있어 번역에 어려움을 주는 요소로,다양한 번역 전략과 관련된 연구가 주로 어휘 차원에서 이루어져 왔다. 그러나 문화특정항목이 텍스트 내에서 반복적으로 등장하거나 맥락 의존적인 경우, 어휘적 접근뿐만 아니라 텍스트 차원에서의 고려가 필요하다. 이러한 맥락에서 본 연구는 어휘 및 텍스트 차원에서 AI번역/기계번역이 문화특정항목을 어떻게 처리하고 있는지 분석하는 한편 학습자 설문을 통해 번역 전략뿐만 아니라 표층결속성 차원에서 학습자들이 문화특정항목을 어떻게 이해하고 있는지 조사한다. 이를 통해 어휘 차원의 번역 전략을 넘어 표층결속성을 고려한 번역 접근의 필요성을 확인하고, 다양한 문화특정항목 번역 전략의 활용 가능성에 대한 논의를 교육적 관점에서 제시한다.

The study aims to examine how machine/AI translation and human translation handle textual cohesion and cultural context in translating culture-specific items (CSIs), using Crying in H-Mart as a case study. It also explores learners' perceptions of cohesion differences between English and Korean translations, considering their implications for teaching cultural translation in the AI era. Based on these findings, the study seeks to propose educational approaches that enhance learners' understanding of CSI translation, bridging the gap between translation strategies and textual cohesion. Culture-specific items are elements unique to a specific language or culture or those embedded with cultural connotations, often posing challenges in translation. While existing research has primarily focused on translation strategies at the lexical level, translating CSIs often requires considerations beyond lexical approaches, especially when CSIs appear repeatedly or are context-dependent within a text. In this context, this study examines how machine/AI translation processes CSIs at both the lexical and textual levels. Additionally, it investigates how learners perceive and understand CSIs not only in terms of translation strategies but also from the perspective of surface cohesion through survey analysis. This study confirms the need for translation approaches that extend beyond one-to-one lexical correspondence to consider textual cohesion. Finally, it offers insights into the educational implications of cultural translation in the age of AI.
