Most research on authentic leadership takes place in a work context. The present study explored the relationship between self-leadership, general self-efficacy, and authentic leadership in the context of one`s life in general. Three hundred Korean adults completed an online survey, including measures of general self-efficacy and self-leadership, and a general measure of authentic leadership. Structural equation modelling was used to test two different research models with self-leadership and self-efficacy alternatively acting as a potential explanatory variable or mediator and authentic leadership as the dependent variable. Results showed support for both models, suggesting that self-leadership and general self-efficacy may contribute to authentic leadership in one`s life in general. Limitations of the current study and suggestions for further research are also discussed.
