영아기 자녀를 둔 어머니의 마음 읽어내기 = An Analysis of the Mind-mindedness of Infants’ Mothers

The purpose of this study was to examine the overall aspects of a mother’s mind-mindedness and the aspects of a mother’s mind-mindedness according to the mothers and infants’ background variables. The subjects in this study were 29 mothers with infants around 12 months of age and the mind-mindedness was measured by the Mind-Mindedness coding manual (Meins & Fernyhough, 2012). As a result of this study, the mother often spoke Mind-Mindedness in the following order: words on the desires and preferences of the infants, words on behalf of the infants, words on the emotions of the infants, and words on the cognitions of the infants. Additionally, it appeared prominently that mothers tended to read infants’ minds about their needs and preferences when the infants were their second child. Moreover, the mothers more frequently spoke words on behalf of the infants while the age of the infants was higher, and the mothers were older. This study is meaningful in terms of providing information on the specific role of mothers in development and relationship support of infants by considering the linguistic reflection of the mother's infant mind in a qualitative aspect and analytically approaching the various aspects of the mind.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 어머니의 영아에 대한 마음 읽어내기의 전반적 양상과 영아 및 어머니의 배경변인에 따른 양상을 살펴보는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 12개월 전후의 영아를 둔 어머니 29명을 대상으로 마음 읽어내기 코딩 매뉴얼 2.1판(Meins & Fernyhough, 2012)을 사용하여 어머니의 마음 읽어내기를 측정하였다. 연구 결과, 어머니는 영아의 욕구와 선호에 대한 말, 영아를 대신하여 한 말, 영아의 정서에 대한 말, 영아의 인지적 과정에 대한 말의 순으로 마음 읽어내기를 자주 하였다. 또한 영아가 둘째인 경우 영아의 욕구와 선호에 대한 마음 읽어내기가 높게 나타났으며, 영아의 월령이 높은 경우와 어머니의 연령이 높은 경우 영아를 대신하여 하는 말을 더 자주 하였다. 본 연구는 어머니의 영아 마음에 대한 언어적 반영을 질적 측면에서 고려하고, 마음의 다양한 측면에 대해 분석적으로 접근함으로써 영아의 발달과 관계 형성 지원을 위한 구체적인 어머니 역할에 대해 정보를 제공하였다는 데에 의의가 있다.
