Generally, university organization performs the special cultural functions such as teaching, research and social service, so the structure of it's organization should be organic, flexible substance, however, the present practice of Korean university administration conducted under the conditions of rigid, bureaucratic control.
Accordingly, in Korean situation, there is overlapping conflicts between controlled, centralized university administration practice and it's professional, autonomous nature of organization.
The purpose of this paper is to examine the current problems and conditions of university administration with special reference to organizational structure and personnel management by focusing sample survey of Chonnam National University. In this paper the close relationship among the functions and roles of university, it's suitable organizational structure, personnel management will be discussed in detail.
The contents of this paper consists of as follows:
Chapter one is the introduction, including the purposes, scopes and methods, and some limitation of the study.
Chapter two explains the functions of university and it's desirable organizational structure with various theoretical perspectives. In short, university organization structure should keep the autonomous, flexible character in order to perform it's unique, particular functions.
Chapter three deals with the sample survey of Chonnam National University with special attention to it's organizational structure and personnel by using questionaire, systematic analysing of relevent documents.
Chapter four suggests some devices for improving the university administration including such as: the organizational devices for strengthening functional autonomy of colleges, the professor's participation in administration, the recruiting systems of personnel etc..
In conclusion, university administration should have to enhance the administrative responsiveness by the way of utilizing non - bureancratic organizational structure, democratic decision-making system decentralization of power and responsibility.
