This study is to compare the extraction method between solid phase microextraction(SPME) and purge and trap(P&T). This subject was discussed on the gas chromatography/mass spectrometry-selected ion moni- toring and gas chromatography /flame ionization detector analysis method of the most common volatile organic compound, also with the 14 species in water samples on the trace level. Not like the liquid-liquid extraction(LLE) or solid phase extraction(SPE), the SPME and P&T dont require processing other steps. Also these methods dont use organic solvents to extract. So they prevent from secondary polluting and can allow multiple. Initially, to optimize the extraction condition for SPME and P&T, this study used SPME/gas chromatography/mass spectrometry-selected ion moni- toring and P&T/gas chromatography/flame ionization detector. The optimized condition turned out to be as below. - SPME condition optimized to extraction temp- erature 20 ℃, extraction time 90 min, and desorption temperature 250 ℃ and P&T condition optimized to purge time 7min, dry purge 2 min.- Then this study compared the extraction efficiency for each method, ie, detection limit, linearity, recovery, and precision, using those methods(SPME and P&T). We found increased recovery using these methods as compared with existing methods(LLE, SPE etc.)
