지적장애 특수학교 중등 교과 운영에 대한 중등 특수교사들의 인식 = Secondary Special School Teachers’ Perception on Curriculum Implementation for Students with Intellectual Disabilities

The purpose of this study was to investigate the current situation of curriculum implementation in secondary special schools for students with intellectual disabilities and identify the support needs as well as improvement strategies for an effective curriculum implementation. For this purpose, 17 teachers with at least 3 years' experience in middle or high schools for students with intellectual disabilities were selected as research participants. A semi-structured interview was conducted with each participant for about one hour. The questionnaire covered topics such as perception of the current situation of the curriculum implementation in secondary special school, difficulties in implementing the curriculum, needs for support, and strategies for improvement for an effective curriculum implementation. All of the interviews were transcribed within one week after the interview and analyzed by constant comparative analysis. As a result, 383 meaningful statements were identified and classified into 35 sub-themes, 11 themes, and 4 categories. The categories are as follows: 1) actual situation of curriculum implementation in secondary special schools for students with intellectual disabilities, 2) perception of the class teacher system and the specialist teacher system 3) perception on the current teacher training system and teacher recruitment system, and 4) support needs for subjects instruction as a secondary special school teacher. In the results of this study, the analysis were presented with an interview case representative of each category. Based on the results, discussion on each interview category was presented.
