노인정신의학의 과거와 미래 = The Past and Future of Geriatric Psychiatry

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근 의학의 발달과 경제 수준의 향상으로 인간의 수명이 길어지고 있고, 이로 인하여 노인 인구의 증가 추세는 전 세계적인 경향이다. 노령층의 증가는 노인의 정신건강에 대한 전문가들의 관심을 고조시키고 있으며, 그로 인하여 노인 정신의학과 관련된 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있는 실정이다. 현재 미국을 위시한 여러 나라에서 노인 정신의학을 하나의 분화된 의학으로 발전시켜 나가고 있으며, 한국에서도 1994년 이미 대한노인정신의학회를 창립하게 되었고, 학회 회원 수도 최근에 급격히 늘어나고 있다. 이런 시점에서 노인정신의학의 과거 역사를 정리해 보고, 미래 발전방향을 생각해 보는 것은 의미가 있을 것으로 생각된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Recently the population of old age people are very rapidly increasing in the world, and growing in-terest in the area of prevention, treatment and rehabilitaion of elderly mental health has been a catalyst for academic research in geriatric psychiatry since the last quater of the 20th century.
The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology administered the examination for a certificate of added qualifications in geriatric psychiatry in April of 1991.
The Korean Association for Geriatric Psychiatry was founded in 1994 in Korea, and the number of KGPA member has been very rapidly increasing since 1994, the founding year of KGPA.
At this point of time, it is of great significance to review the history of geriatric psychiatry, especially the history of KGPA, and to think about the future of geriatric psychiatry in Korea.
