The objective of this study is to develop a novel class of osteoarthritis treatment by the use of protein transduction technologies. To acheive the aim, the following was done.
1) The clinical and preclinical efficacy of protein therapy in terms of anti-inflammation and anti-catabolism in cultured chondrocytes and animal OA model was examined.,
2) The most effective modality of intra-articular protein delivery was persued.
3) Candidate protein for the protection of cartilage degeneration in osteoarthritis was sought and evaluated.
Because osteoarthritis is a slow porgressing disease and prevalent among the elderly, local treatment with low toxicity is requred. The intra-articular or topical treatement using therapeutic protein delivery technology woudl fulfill such objectives.
