스포츠맨십이 지닌 도덕적 딜레마 = The Moral Dilemma of Sportsmanship

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this paper was to focus on sportsmanship as a category of morality in sports. I tried to approach the aim by asking a core question: what should we seek for ethically good sports which has goodness such as fair play, good manner over competitor, justice and so on. Generally, the notion of sportsmanship separates into two different sides; following game rule in fairness and having good attitude as a sportsman. From the view point, sportsmanship is explained as obligatory law in rule observance. It has, on the other hand, voluntary morality because having a good manner is depending on the sportsman's own choice based on freedom. To prevent pure spirit of sports, it may be succinct if we control ill-mannered player with mandatory rule as well. In spite of knowing how to solve unethical issues in sports, that is by rule enforcement, it is not a proper consideration for the being sportslike sports. We should respect for the sportsman's choice which springs from not a sense of compulsion but of spontaneity because it is virtue. It will be a good game, therefore, if we can show moral excellence through sports game. If so, there is no doubts to insist sport is the most valuable human movement.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 ‘스포츠다운 스포츠’를 만들기 위한 대안을 도덕성에 두고, 스포츠가 지닌 도덕적 가치의 탁월성에 주목하였다. 스포츠에 있어서 스포츠맨십은 스포츠참가자가 지닌 도덕성을 선보일 수 있는 대표적 개념이자 바람직한 스포츠수행을 위한 필요조건으로 간주되어 왔다. 이러한 스포츠맨십은 경기규칙의 준수와 더불어 스포츠참가자가 지녀야 할 일종의 매너를 의미한다. 스포츠에서의 규칙은 선수가 반드시 지켜야 할 의무이자 책임이다. 그러나 이와는 달리 선수들이 지녀야 할 태도에는 자율성이 전제된다. 여기에는 경기규칙이 지닌 강력한 구속력 보다는 오히려 개개인의 자발적인 선택이 요구된다. 이러한 자율성은 비윤리적 문제점을 안고 있는 현대스포츠에 도덕적 딜레마를 제공한다. 경기규칙 준수에서 보여지듯이 스포츠 참가자들이 지녀야 할 도덕적 태도에 법적 영향력을 제도화 할 수 있는 가능성에도 불구하고 자율성을 존중 하는 이유는 ‘스포츠다운 스포츠’가 되기 위한 도덕적 실천의 선행이 우선시 되어야 하기 때문이다. 스포츠맨십 준수가 전적으로 법에 의지하게 된다면 스포츠에는 규칙준수만 있을 뿐 자발적인 도덕성의 존재는 회의적일 수밖에 없다. 따라서 스포츠를 통해 인간의 신체적 탁월성을 선보일 수 있고, 이와 더불어 도덕적 성숙함까지 겸비할 수 있다면, 이는 분명 가치로운 인간행위임에 틀림없다. 이를 통해 스포츠는 인간움직임의 완전한 형태로서 그것이 지닌 가치를 부각시킬 수 있을 것이다.
