근대 문예 초창기 ‘변태심리’의 예술적 수용과 실천 양상－한국 근대 문예의 또 다른 기원으로 = The Artistic Embracement and Practice of ‘Perverse Psychology(變態心理)’ in the Early Korean Modern Literature－As Another Origin of Korean Modern Literature－

국문 초록 (Abstract)

‘변태(變態)’ 혹은 ‘변태심리(變態⼼理)’ 용어는 지금은 성(性)과 관련된 병리적인 양상을 지칭하는 좁은 의미로만 인식되고 있지만, 20년대 초 식민지 조선의 담론 체계속에서는 훨씬 더 폭넓고 유동적 의미망을 구성하며 기능하고 있었다. 20세기 초 일본을 거쳐 한국에 소개된 이 ‘변태’ 혹은 ‘변태심리’에 대한 심리학적 관심은 정상성의 범주에서 벗어난 인간의 심리적 충동성을 해명하고자 하는 노력을 시작으로, 문학, 미술, 역사, 종교 등의 사회적인 현상에 대한 해명까지 넓은 범위에 걸쳐 있었다.
특히, 일본정신의학회의 기관지인 변태심리(變態⼼理)에서 이 ‘변태심리’는 단지정신병리나 질환으로서만이 아니라 천재나 위인, 특히 예술적 천재라는 긍정적인 의미의 심리까지도 포함하고 있는 것이었고, 이를 통해 ‘변태심리’를 문명사적인 구도로 보고자 하는 담론이 형성되어 있었다. 이러한 상황은 한국 근대 문예 초창기에 있어서도마찬가지였는데, 이 ‘변태심리’는 롬브로소의 천재론이나 프로이트의 이상심리학에대한 소개와 함께 근대 문예에 있어서 중요한 원천으로 간주되었던 것이다. 특히 임노월은 ‘변태심리’의 개념적 수용에 대해서 중요한 역할을 담당했다.
이에 비해, 김동인은 스스로는 ‘변태심리’라는 개념에 대해서 전혀 언급하지 않았지만, 그가 썼던 초기 단편들을 보면, 문예사조의 수용과 영향이라는 범주를 넘어서는‘변태심리’의 문예적 실천을 행했던 국면을 확인할 수 있다. 김동인과 임노월 등 초기소설 창작을 통해 ‘변태심리’는 한국 근대 문예의 또 다른 기원으로서 중요한 의미를가지게 되었던 셈이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

While the term 'perversion (變態)' or 'perverse psychology (變態⼼ 理)' is now only recognized in a narrow sense, referring to pathological aspects related to sexual desire, in the early 1920s, within the discourse system of colonial Chosun, this concept of 'perversion' or 'perverse psychology' functioned by forming a much broader and more fluid network of meanings. The psychological interest in this 'perversion' or 'perverse psychology,' introduced to Korea via Japan in the early 20th century, began with an effort to explain human psychological impulses that deviated from the category of normalcy, and extended to a wide range of social phenomena such as literature, art, history, and religion.
In particular, in the journal of the Japan Society of Psychiatry(日本 精神醫學會), Perverse Psychology(變態⼼理) , this 'perverse psychology' was not just a psychopathology or a disease, but also included positive psychological meanings such as genius or great figures, especially artistic geniuses. Through this, the civilizational framework of how to view the writers who depicted perverse psychology played a significant role. This situation was also the same in the early days of Korean modern literature, where this perverse psychology, along with the introduction of Lombroso's The man of Genius and Freud's abnormal psychology, was considered an important source. In particular, Im No-wol(林蘆月) played a significant role in the conceptual acceptance of 'perverse psychology'.
In contrast, while Kim Dong-in(⾦東仁) himself never mentioned the concept of 'perverse psychology', his early short stories show a literary practice of perverse psychology that goes beyond the category of accepting and being influenced by literary trends. It can be said that 'perverse psychology' had a significant meaning as another origin of Korean modern literature through the early novel creations of Kim Dong-in(⾦東仁) and Im No-wol(林蘆月).
