The purpose of this study was to identify the key research topics and characteristics of research subjects expected to be addressed in the Korean Journal of Counseling: Case Studies and Practice, and to explore its future directions for development. To achieve this, a three-round Delphi survey was conducted with 15 experts who had served as editors-in-chief or editorial board members of the journal. The key findings are as follows. First, 19 key topics and contents, 26 subject characteristics, and 15 research methodologies were identified. Research topics included ‘transcript analysis, specific counseling intervention techniques, client change processes’, ‘ethical dilemmas, decision-making, value judgment in counseling’, and ‘case studies on multicultural and social justice counseling’. Research subjects included multicultural populations, individuals with disabilities, and sexual minorities. Research methodologies included case studies (qualitative, quantitative, single-case, and small sample studies), longitudinal studies, and field surveys. Second, 25 emerging or anticipated future research topics were identified, including ‘studies on counseling for older adults’, ‘retirement’, ‘social isolation and disconnection’, ‘counseling for social minorities’, and ‘studies on the middle-aged population’. Third, 16 distinguishing characteristics of Korean Journal of Counseling: Case Studies and Practice compared to Korean Journal of Counseling were identified, such as ‘research focusing on counseling interventions and practical applications, providing direct clinical implications’, ‘studies that highlight specific counseling change processes’, and ‘research on client characteristics, diagnosis, and case conceptualization based on client traits’. Fourth, 13 future directions and operational tasks were suggested, including ‘encouraging counseling practitioners to publish research directly related to counseling and fostering a virtuous cycle where research contributes to practice’, and ‘the editorial board establishing evaluation criteria and providing sample papers for practice-oriented studies, such as case studies’. Based on the results, this study presented academic discussions and suggestions for the future development of the Korean Journal of Counseling: Case Studies and Practice.
