조선그리스도교련맹의 WCC 가입신청 문제

A lot of writing published in South Korea on the relations between (North) Korean Christian Federation and World Council of Churches says that the Korean Christian Federation applied for the World Council of Churches membership in 1974 and 1981 but it was rejected by the World Council of Churches because of the lack of information J about North Korean Churches. This statement is based on the fact that delegation from the North Korean Mission to the UN in Geneva visited World Council of Churches office in 1974 and delivered two letters officially to the World Council of Churches from the Central Committee of the Korean Christian Federation. So far the letters have known to the South Korean Churches as the official application form of the Korean Christian Federation for the WCC membership.
This essay examines whether the Korean Christian Federation really applied for the WCC membership in 1974 and the two letters were the Korean Christian Federation’s application letters for the WCC membership. According to the findings of this essay, the letters stated on the harsh tyranny in South Korea and the resistance being offered to the South Korean Government by the Christian churches, among others. The letters made no reference to the problem that the Korean Christian Federation wanted to join the World Council of Churches. But Mr. Park Il Bu from the North Korean Mission said so. To quote Park on this, “Though I myself am not a Christian, we wish to become members of the World Council of Churches.”
In conclusion, the Korean Christian Federation’s letters to the World Council of Churches were general in content and made no statement to the fact which was mentioned by the official visitors that they or the Korean Christian Federation wanted to join the World Council of Churches. Even though the official visitors mentioned Korean Christian Federation’s wish to become the members of the World Council of Churches, it was not the official application of the Korean Christian Federation for the WCC membership.
