Human rotavirus (HRV) in the stools of pediatric inpatients with acute gastroenteritis were detected by ELISA (Mar. 1982-Apr. 1986) and LA test (May. 1986-Feb. 1992) at HanYang University Hospital. The results were fallowing: 1. The positive rate of HRV was 38.1% (1119/ 2934 patients). 2. The seasonal variation of rotavirus gastroenteritis was significantly high in Autumn (47.5 %). 3. The frequency of HRV infection was highest on November ( 55.3%). 4. The ratio of male and female children with HRV infection was 1.1: 1. 5. The age group distribution of children with HRV infection were 20.5% below 6 months of age, 62.9% between 6 to 12 months of age, 58.1% between 13 to 24, 9.2% between 25 to 36 months of age and 6.1% over 36 months age. 6. The ELISA was as sensitive as electron microcopy for detection of rotavirus.
