The effect of various load and injection pressure on combustion and emission characteristics were investigated in a 4-cylinder CRDI diesel engine fueled with biodiesel blends. For investigating the effect of biodiesel blended ratio on combustion characteristics, the experiments were performed at various load conditions and injection pressures. In addition, pilot injection strategy was maintained by pilot injection quantity of 1.6㎎/cycle and pilot injection timing of BTDC 15°. The experimental results based on the application of biodiesel blended fuel to a compression ignition engine showed that the ignition delay when using biodiesel blended fuel was faster than that of conventional diesel fuel(ULSD), and the maximum combustion pressure was higher than when using conventional diesel fuel. In terms of the characteristics of emissions, the particulate matter concentration when using biodiesel blended fuel was reduced and the other emissions of NOx and CO emissions were significantly increased as increased of injection pressure. However, as increased of engine load, HC and CO emissions were reduced.
