Purposes of this study are to analyse the conception about the nature of elementary social studies of primary school teachers, and to seek significances in the area of elementary social studies education. For this study, 179 primary school teachers were sampled to survey and analyse their conceptions about the nature of elementary social studies. Questionnaires included teachers` conception about the object, the teaching and learning strategy, the learning content of elementary social studies. Results of this study can be summarized as follows: o Analysing in the object`s aspect, primary school teachers generally have such conception about the object that elementary social studies should pursue objects from the viewpoint of citizenship transmission model, social sciences model, reflective thinking model simultaneously. o Analysing in the teaching and learning strategy`s aspect, primary school teachers generally have such conception about the teaching and learning strategy of elementary social studies that the strategy from the viewpoint of reflective thinking model is more important than the others. o Analysing in the learning content`s aspect, primary school teachers generally have such conception about the learning content of elementary social studies that the learning content from the viewpoint of reflective thinking model is relatively more important than the others. o Consequently, primary school teachers generally have inconsistent conception about the object, the teaching and learning strategy, the learning content of elementary social studies.
