It is correct that the funeral rites should follow the family rites of the Chu Hsi who inherited the rites of Confucius. If some one has any doubt, it is safe to ask elderly person before carry on. The essece of the funeral rites that Yougok emphasized are as followings. 1) If father alive when mother died, father should be the chief mourner. It is the correct rite that all funeral speeches must be directed to wife by the husband. 2) As father passes away, all women including wife, concubines and daughter-in-law let their hairs loose while men put their loose hairs into their top with bands and put off the shocks. 3) When corpse is in the room before setting up mortuary, head of family must seat in south because the head of corpse is the top seat. 4) After condolers express the rite, chief mourner must bow twice and mourning vocally. 5) It is against the filial piety if some one losing the health from overwhelming sadness. 6) One must not put off the funeral clothes unless the sickness or working. 7) After the funeral, one must perform the farewell ceremony for the sprit of dead. 8) Funeral rites is one of the most important filial piety. 9) Dong-i people Soryeoni and Daeryeoni were the perople who set up the tradition of setting up funeral rite tradition. 10) One with funeral cloth must wear the funeral cloth first day of every month andperform vocal mourning.
