21세기 한국 사회과학 바로세우기 : 반성과 과제 Tasks for Identity Formation = Rebuilding Social Sciences in Korea towards 21st Century

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글에서는 21세기 한국 사회과학의 바람직한 자아상을 찾기 위해 우리 사회과학이 직면하고 있는 문제점과 이의 극복방안을 살펴보고, 사회과학의 한국화를 위한 방법론적 과제를 탐색한다. 그 동안의 사회과학의 자기정체성의 결여는 중심부 사회과학의 아류로서 전개되어 오는 과정에서 나타난 주변성의 당연한 결과로 파악된다. 그러므로 사회과학의 한국화라는 문제는 바깥 것과 안의 것, 혹은 남의 것과 나의 것이라는 단순한 평면적 대비에서 접근되기 보다 주변적 자기정체성을 몰고 온 지식산업 전반에 걸쳐 발견되는 종속의 문화적, 제도적 기반에 대한 철저한 분석을 통해 이루어져야 한다.
21세기 한국 사회과학의 올바른 자리 매김은 이데올로기로서의 사회과학과 과학으로서의 사회과학을 뛰어넘는 ‘홀로서기’를 위한 방법과 논리를 개발하는 데 그 관건이 있다. 한국 사회과학의 도약을 위해서 필자는 사회과학의 분야별 영역주의를 타파하여 우리 사회에 독특한 주제에 관한 총합적 접근을 시도할 것, 역사학과의 교류와 협력을 강화함으로써 한국사회에 관한 부분사적·전체사적연구를 축적할 것, 다른 국가, 문화, 지역과의 비교연구를 배전의 노력으로 강화할 것 등을 제언하고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper investigates the identity crisis of Korean social sciences, and consequently explores the methodological alternatives for the indigenization of Korean social sciences. The lack of identity of Korean social sciences has been inevitably resulted from the developing process influenced by the western social sciences. Therefore, Korean social sciences need to analyze throughly the cultural and institutional grounds of its peripheral identity, rather than continuing to define it in terms of “we-they” schematics.
It is critical for Korean social sciences to develop their methodology and logic. The author presents three recommendations: (1) interdisciplinary approach to the subjects peculiar to Korean society; (2) accumulation of studies on the period-specific agenda or total Korean history by strengthening joint work with the historical studies; (3) comparative studies on other nations, cultures, and regions.
