신진 미술가의 창의성 인식과 발현 과정에 대한 질적 탐색 = A Study on Creativity Based on Visual Artists’ Educational Experiences

국문 초록 (Abstract)

우리나라 교육에서 창의성(Creativity)의 중요성이 강조되고 왔고, 학교 현장에서도 2010년 이후 창의·인성 교육을적극적으로 추진하여 학생들이 창의성을 발휘할 수 있도록 노력을 해 오고 있다. 본 연구에서는 창의성과 깊은 관련이있는 예술영역에서의 창의성에 대한 연구가 진행될 필요가 있어 신진 미술가들의 창의성에 대한 인식과 어떻게발현되는지를 분석하여 우리나라의 초·중·고 학교교육의 창의성 계발 측면의 시사점을 도출하고자 하였다. 연구 참여자는우리나라 제7차 교육과정에서 학창생활을 보냈던 신진 미술가 10명을 대상으로 선정하였다. 연구 방법으로는 현실에기반한 심층 면담 자료를 바탕으로 귀납적으로 이론을 도출하는 질적 연구 방법을 분석도구로 활용하였다. 본 연구를수행한 결과, 신진 미술가들이 생각하는 창의성은 ‘주변을 다르게 보기’, ‘정해진 틀에서 깨고 나오기’와 미술활동을‘꾸준히 차곡차곡 쌓아가기’ 등이었다. 여기에서 창의성은 삶의 태도와 사고방식, 그리고 끈기있게 반복하며 실천하는행위에서 발현된다는 것을 파악하였다. 본 연구는 미술가들의 경험적 인식을 통해 창의성이 결과 중심의 산출물이아니라 인식의 전환과 시간적 축적을 포함하는 과정적·발달적 현상임을 밝힌다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 이는 향후창의성 교육이 정답 중심의 성과 지향적 접근을 넘어, 관점 전환, 인지적 유연성, 그리고 지속적 실천을 중심으로설계될 필요성을 시사한다.

In today’s educational climate, the importance of creativity is increasingly emphasized. Since 2010, Korea has also actively promoted creativity and character education, making efforts to help students fully express their creative potential. Thus, it is necessary to explore effective ways to foster creativity. Because creativity is deeply connected to artistic practice, this study investigates how emerging Korean visual artists define creativity and how it is manifested in their work, with the aim of identifying implications for fostering creativity in elementary, middle, and high school education. Participants were selected from among emerging artists who had completed their schooling under Korea’s 7th National Curriculum. A qualitative research method was used, employing in-depth interviews and inductive theory building based on real-world experiences. The findings revealed that these emerging artists understood creativity as “seeing one’s surroundings differently,” “breaking away from predetermined frameworks,” and “steadily accumulating artistic practice.” These results indicate that creativity emerges through attitudes toward life, modes of thinking, and persistent, repetitive engagement in artistic activity. This study is significant in that, through an examination of artists’ experiential perceptions, it demonstrates that creativity is not a result-oriented product but a processual and developmental phenomenon that involves shifts in perception and cumulative engagement over time. These findings suggest that future approaches to creativity education should move beyond answer-centered, performance-driven models and instead be designed to emphasize perspective-taking, cognitive flexibility, and sustained practice.
