Eighteen women with unruptured tubal pregnancies were treated by laparoscopically guided single injection of methotrexate(MTX) into the gestational sac after aspiration of its content. No side effects were observed during the procedure or hospital stay and they were discharged within 1~3 days after treatment. In 17(94.4%) of 18 women complete resolution of serum hCG(< 10 mIU/ml) was achieved within 10~39 days(mean 23.9 days). Treatment failed in only one patient who required an operation 8 days after treatment because of stationary serum hCG and persisting abdominal pain. Follow-up hysterosalpingogram, taken 1~3 months after the treatment, were available for thirteen women. Eleven(84.6%) of thirteen women showed tubal patency on the side of previous ectopic pregnancy. Further comparative studies and long-term follow-up are needed to evaluate reproductive outcome but the injection of MTX seems to be valuable in the treatment of some selected cases of tubal pregnancy.
