기획논문-주제 : 지역 민속연희와 공연문화유산 ; 제주 해녀들의 삶과 생활을 활용한 공연 스토리텔링 연구 = A Study on Performance Storytelling based on the Life and Living of Jeju Haenyeos

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 우리 민족만이 가지고 있는 독특한 문화 속성들을 파악한 다음, 우리의 고유한 문화원형(Prototypes) 중에서 특히, 무형문화유산(Intangible Cultural Heritage)을 중심으로 어떻게 스토리텔링(Storytelling)을 잘 활용하여 문화콘텐츠(Cultural Contents)로서 대한민국 대표 브랜드(Brand)를 만들 수 있느냐에 대한 방향을 제시하는 데 그 궁극적인 연구 목적을 두고 있다. 21세기 강인한 여성의 대표주자로 바다에서 삶을 살아가면서 가족의 생계를 책임지고 있는 제주 해녀들의 삶과 생활을 어떻게 스토리텔링으로 활용할 수 있는지 검토해 보고, 그들의 중요한 가치를 추출해 내고자 했다. 2013년 12월 19일, 문화재청 무형문화재분과위원회는 “2015년 유네스코 인류무형문화유산”에 한국대표 종목으로 제주 해녀문화를 등재 신청하기로 심의 의결했다. 그러나 문제는 일본의 “아마(Ama)”라는 해녀의 추격이다. 일본은 “아마”를 등재하기 위해 폭넓은 국내외 홍보활동을 펼치고 있다. 우리가 긴장하지 않으면 세계인들이 제주 여성의 강인한 생명력을 담고 있는 바다의 어멍 - “해녀”라는 소중한 우리의 독특한 무형문화유산의 이름을 알지 못하게 될 수도 있다. 이런 시의성(時宜性)을 고려해 제주 해녀들에 대해 통시적인 관점과 공시적인 관점을 접목시켜 연구해 보고자 했다. 특히, 현재 제주 성산포에서 실제로 공연되고 있는 제주 해녀들의 성산포 공연 스토리텔링을 찬찬히 살펴보고 앞으로 제주 해녀들의 삶과 생활을 활용하여 더욱 풍부하고, 다양한 공연 콘텐츠를 담아내는 스토리텔링 연구 방안이 무엇인지 고민해 보고자 했다. 이는 제주 해녀들의 공연 스토리텔링을 개발하여 세계인들의 주목을 받을 수 있는 빅 킬러 콘텐츠가 될 수 있는 방향을 제시하고자 하는데 그 궁극적인 목표를 둔 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purposes of this study were to figure out the unique cultural attributes of Korean people, make good use of storytelling around the unique Korean cultural prototypes, especially intangible cultural heritage, and ultimately suggest a direction for creating a representative Korean brand with cultural contents. The study set out to examine how to utilize the life and living of Jeju Haenyeos(female divers), who live a life in the ocean and take care of the family livelihood as the model of strong women in the 21st century, as well as to extract their critical values. On December 19, 2013, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Subcommittee of Cultural Heritage Administration considered and decided to make an application for registering the Jeju Haenyeos culture as "UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of 2015" as the representative item of Korea. The problem is, however, the chase by Japanese female divers called "Ama divers." The efforts to register them as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage are becoming full-blown in Japan, which has carried out broad promotional activities to achieve the goal. If Koreans do not get tense about the whole situation, the world can be deprived of a chance even to hear the name of "Haenyeos," who are the mothers of the sea possessing the strong life force of Jeju women and represent the unique, precious intangible cultural heritage of Korea. Considering such timeliness, the study investigated Jeju Haenyeos by combining the diachronic and synchronic perspectives. In particular, this study set out to closely examine the storytelling of Seongsanpo performance by Jeju haenyeos, which is put on the stage in Seongsanpo, Jeju these days, and contemplate over storytelling research plans to make use of the life and living of Jeju haenyeos and deliver richer and more diverse performance content. The ultimate purpose was to propose directions for big killer content to attract the global attention by developing storytelling for the performance of Jeju haenyeos.
