To study the various factors related with Hypercholesterolemia, 1,887 persons who underwent Health Examination for general check-up during the period from May 1997 to July 1998 in one Junju-hospital were examined by means of questionaire on living environment and health behavior and laboratory findings.
Hypercholesterolemia was defined as serum cholesterol over 240mg%.
I made the nonhypercholesterolemic control group by random matching each hypercholesterolemic person by age and sex. There were 153 persons for nonhypercholesterolemic group and 153 persons for hypercholesterolemic group.
The results as follws.
1. The incidence of hypercholesterolemia was 153(8.1%) among 1,887 cases and sexual distribution was 72/1,006(7.2%) in males and 81/881(9.2%) in females.
2. The incidence of hypercholesterolemia was not increasing while patient' s age increased and which was not statistically significant.
3. In hypercholesterolemic group, obesity(p<0.001) and hypertension(p<0.05) were significantly different from nonhypercholesterolemic group by statistics.
4. In respect of smoking and drinking, there were no significant difference
between hypercholesterolemic and nonhypercholesterolemic groups.
