This study focuses analysis on the characteristics and nature of processes, perspectives, socio-political backgrounds of so-called 1984 Sikh Massacre as a political violence on the basis of the secondary materials like police affidavits, first information reports, NGOs' reports on the anti-Sikh riots, and Govt. Commission reports. In spite of the Govt. reports' attempt to characterize the Sikh massacre as a sudden and spontaneous national outburst generated by people's reactions to Mrs. Gandhi's assassination, 1984 anti-Sikh riots were unquestionable systematic killings as well as the collective violence fully initiated, organized, and supported by the Indian National Congress(I) as a ruling party. 1984 Sikh massacre clearly shows one of characteristics of political violence which is usually tightly connected to the politicization of religion. The politicization of religion in South Asia tied to the politics of elections has much to do with the winning of the benefits distributed by the modern state committed to welfare, development, and employment programs.
