경찰-주민접촉이 경찰에 대한 신뢰에 미치는 영향

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 경찰-주민의 접촉이 다양한 상황에서 이루어질 수 있으며 접촉의 빈도와 유형, 그리고 지역특성과의 상호작용에 따라 경찰신뢰에 미치는 영향이 다를 것이라고 가정하고 이를 검증하고자 하였다.
이 연구에서 주목할 만한 결과는 첫째, 비자발적인 접촉경험시의 만족도가 자발적인 경험시보다 상대적으로 낮지만, 음주운전의 경우는 경찰태도에 대하여 만족하는 주민의 비율이 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 주민들은 음주운전이나 불심검문, 교통신호위반과 같은 상황에서 경찰에 의해 비자발적으로 접촉한 경험이 많을수록 경찰을 불신하는 것(-0.128, p<.05)으로 나타났다. 또한 경찰이 주민에 대한 모욕적인 언어나 폭력을 사용하거나 정당한 이유 없는 검문을 한 경험을 간접적으로 보고 들은 주민일수록 경찰에 대한 신뢰가 낮은 것(-0.330, p<.01)으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 지역 무질서(0.449, p<.05) 및 비공식적 사회통제(0.908, p<.05)와 부정적인 경찰 대리접촉이 경찰에 대한 신뢰에 상호작용효과를 갖는 것으로 나타났다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aimed to examine the influence of police-resident contact to trust in the police. Especially, hierarchical linear modeling techniques were used to assess the influence of both individual-level and community-level characteristics on residents’ trust in the police.
The result indicated that involuntary police contact and negative police-resident contact variables were significant predictors of trust in the police. And there were some interaction effects between residents’ individual characteristics and communities’ characteristics. The residents of the same individual characteristics could show different levels of residents’ trust in the police according to the characteristics of the community in which they reside. This meant that there were some interaction effects between residents’ individual characteristics and communities’ characteristics. Especially, the cross level interaction was effective in that the effects of negative police-neighborhood contact were bigger in communities with a low degree of informal social control and disorder than in communities with a high degree.
