왜 이자벨 아자니가 인기있는가?: 시네필리아 스타덤, 내셔널 시네마 그리고 프랑스 최초의 아랍 스타 = The Cinephilic Stardom of Isabelle Adjani as French-Algerian Star

Apart from the stardom enjoyed by the native stars of each national cinema, the popular film stardom mostly consists of major Hollywood stars as the industry dominates the increasingly globalised film market. However, there emerges a different kind of taste for film stardom concerning more artistically-oriented and auteuristic approaches in the star images represented by the stars of European, 'art-house' cinema. Drawing on the star image developed by the French actress Isabelle Adjani, this paper looks at the phenomenon of a particularly cinephillic stardom and its reception of the French film star. What merits a particular discussion will be tow-fold: how Adjani as a star of auteur cinema negotiates her star image as an auteur in her own right; and also how she manages to embody a 'national look' represented in French national cinema since the revelation of her Franco-Algerian ethnic origin, which marked the breakdown of her career and thereby caused a discussion on what constitutes and qualifies a national film star.
