Purpose The purpose of this study is to test whether cultural mediators’ competencies (sharing, communication, facilitation) influence local cultural revitalization (enjoyment expansion, space function activation, community activation) through the mediating role of perceived contribution. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted in 2024 with cultural-arts workers in Seoul; 300 questionnaires were distributed and 218 valid responses were analyzed. Analyses used SPSS 22 with multiple and hierarchical regressions, and mediation followed the Baron and Kenny procedure; multicollinearity was acceptable. Results Competencies significantly predicted all outcomes, and contribution was positively related to competencies and outcomes. Adding contribution increased explained variance by 18.7% (enjoyment), 21.6% (space function), and 10.3% (community). For enjoyment, sharing and communication became non-significant while facilitation remained significant, indicating full mediation for sharing and communication and partial mediation for facilitation; the other domains showed partial mediation. Conclusion Competencies affect local cultural revitalization chiefly via contribution; facilitation is most salient for enjoyment, sharing for space function, and communication for community, informing competency-based staffing and evaluation.
