With the revision of Construction Technology Management Act in Korea in 1997, the classification of specifications in the architectural works in Korea were changed from the standard specification and the special specification into the standard specification, special specification and work specification. The standard specification for architectural work is the specification which is used to prepare the work specification. It is the specification of materials and work method focusing on the given conditions such as the dimension of materials and work methods. But unlike the overseas standard where only the final results are described, it is described focusing on the conditions for the work under the predetermined instructions. Therefore, it acts as the main factors inhibiting the technological development by the contractors for the voluntary work participation and quality enhancement.
In this study, we analyzed the configuration item of the specification of the overseas and domestic window construction as improvement plan of system-window construction specification. As for the overseas specifications, the study focused on UFGS of US which is the guide specification and JASS 16 window construction of Japan, which is the performance specification. As for the domestic specifications, the study was made on the standard specification, special specification of Seoul City, LH special specification and the cases of work specification for windows. In addition, the performance items in the overseas and domestic performance evaluation system in the system-window construction were reviewed and analyzed and the interview and questionnaires research were conducted to obtain the timing of performance checks for each process stage in the system-window construction and its configuration item as well as the items of performance evaluation for windows in order to develop the prototype specification linked with the performance.
The contents of this study can be summarized as follows. First, based on the cases of the specification of windows, overseas and domestic specifications for windows and research papers, the configuration item and the current situation of the specifications for windows are studied. Second, the current situation of the overseas and domestic performance evaluation system for windows were researched to meet the performance of the system-window and then the items for the performance evaluation were compared and analyzed. Third, the questionnaires study was conducted to the workers of the system-window and the problems and future direction of the domestic specification on windows were suggested. Fourth, as the way to improve the specification of the system-window construction, the timing of performance checking and configuration item which would be helpful to improve the quality of window at the stage of installation were suggested based on the process of installation of the system-window. Through the interview with experts, the verification was carried out for improving the specification. Fifth, the frame work for the prototype specification which is linked to the performance was suggested in a way that the timing of performance checking by stage and the configuration item depending on the process of the system-window is suggested as the performance linked specification prototype.
This study has implications in that the quality of windows can be acquired by suggesting the timing of performance checking and configuration item by stage of installation process as a way to mutually complement the specification focusing on the given conditions and the specification focusing on the performance.
In the future, the study on the items of performance test for windows and performance standard suitable for each work, detailed implementation items ensuring the performance of windows through field test and other methods would be required.
