With a focus on photographs created using the digital process from 2000 to present day, this study is an analysis of major exhibitions held in Korea. In addition, through these photographs, this study also examines authors who thoroughly search for features of digital media.
Along with flows of times, the exhibition plays a role to begin cultural discussions. That is determined significant in that the exhibition reflects the society communicating with the public.
Starting from around the year 2000, photographic exhibitions in Korea have been proposing solid definitions and strategies of planners that would, in return, improve the completion of the planning. At the same time, as new media is introduced, the exhibitions have started to focus on the essence of the photographs. The digital photograph introduced between 2005 and 2006 is being processed until now as focusing on representation issues that are the representation codes and the representation methods. As a result, only naturally, discussions on the reality and the illusion, and the reality and the unreality are initiated.
This study aims to provide research with directions while looking into the main issues of digital photographs. Those issues are understood as, first, differences between media that the art field would recognize, and value of coexistence, second, effects of digital technology on photographic exhibitions, and third, how digital photographs are being shared in the art field.
