Little empirical study has been conducted concerning factors influencing mothers` choice about child rearing at divorce. Using the sample of 114 mothers selected from mothers with young child who decided to divorce and had legal counseling from Korea Legal Aid Center, this study attempted to identify distribution of mothers` choice about child rearing and its predictors. This study shows that 65.8% of mothers wanted to rear child. Religion, current job status, size of financial support expected from child`s father after divorce, mothers` health, degree of necessary information perceived by mothers about child rearing at divorce have statistically significant relationships with mothers` choice about child rearing. Two factors (emotional support and material support from diverse sources such as parents, sibling, relatives, etc.) of social support do not have statistically significant relationship with mothers` choice about child rearing. This study discusses the direction of future research about mothers` choice about child rearing at divorce and the areas that efforts of social service system should be concentrated on for satisfying mothers` needs related to child rearing at divorce and supporting mothers` appropriate choice.
