尹德熙(1685~1776)의 <책 읽는 여인>에 나타나는 젠더의 특성 = Gender Issue in Reading Woman by Yun Tŏkhŭi(1685~1776)

국문 초록 (Abstract)

조선의 여인이 讀書하는 모습을 그린 조선시대의 회화작품은 尹德熙의 〈책 읽는 여인〉이 有一하다. 지금까지 이 그림은 조선 여인의 독서 실상을 그린 風俗畵의 하나로 간주되면서 이 그림의 배경이 中國的이란 점이 간과되고 있었다. 이 논의는 조선의 상류층 여인이 중국 남성의 정원에 앉아서 독서하는 장면, 즉 이 그림이 특이하게 보여주는 이질 조합들에 대하여 젠더적 관점의 해석을 제안하였다. 즉 조선시대 남성들이 여성의 독서에 요구한 제한적 독서내용 및 독서태도 혹은 폄하적 태도와 아울러 조선의 남성학자들이 중국 명청대의 미인독서도를 바라볼 때 마치 스스로 중국 남성학자 시선을 상상하고자 하였던 욕망적 태도 및 중국여성을 바라보는 동경의 시각 등이 가지는 다각적 二重性을 분석하고, 이러한 이중적 태도가 빚은 결과로 〈책 읽는 여인〉이 제작되었음을 논하여 보았다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Reading Woman by Yun Tŏkhŭi(1685~1776) is the only Chosŏn painting which depicts a reading woman of the late Chosŏn period. Until now, this painting has been regarded as a genre painting showing the reading reality of Chosŏn women, but it has been overlooked that the background of this painting was a Chinese garden. This study proposes a gender-based interpretation of this scene in which a Chosŏn lady sits in the garden of a China, that is, the combination scene of this painting. In other words, by looking at the duality of Chosŏn male scholars limited or disparaging attitudes toward women’s reading and the attitude that they wanted to appreciate beauty reading of the Ming and Qing China from the perspective of Chinese male scholars, this study discusses that Reading Woman was produced as a result of this attitude of duality. In addition, this dual attitude is also applied to the perspective of looking at the images of reading woman in the paintings produced in the modern era of Korea.
