This study examined land use in and around the central business district (CBD) in Busan, South Korea, to provide basic information for urban management and related policies. The Seo Myun district, a main commercial center and hub in Busan, was chosen as the study site. A general analysis was based on various data, including census data, land prices, information from architects’ ledgers, data showing land use by area, and cadastral maps. Additional data were used for more detailed understanding, and the CBD border was delineated based on the analysis results. The number of central urban businesses seemed to be decreasing in the CBD along with decreases in the number of people working in industry. A multinucleate urban pattern seemed to be forming as a result of development in outlying areas. Field investigations to confirm the extracted borders and the status of old residential areas showed mixed usage in areas between the center of the CBD and its borders. The results will provide useful information for CBD management and contribute to research on urban planning and re-development.
