국문 초록 (Abstract)

유구한 역사를 이어온 우리 고유의 시가인 시조가 오늘날에도 현대문학의 중요한 한 갈래로 엄연히 존재함에도 불구하고 초등학교 교과서에서 차지하는 비중은 현저히 낮다. 이에 문학교육의 중요한 목표 가운데 ‘민족 정서의 이해와 습득’의 한 방안으로 시조교육이 제시될 수 있을 것이다. 우리 민족 고유의 정서와 사상 감정을 그 어떤 문학 갈래보다 시조가 잘 수용하고 있기 때문이다.
2장에서 먼저 ‘시조 교육의 목적과 가치’를 알아보았다. 시조문학 교육을 통해 총체적인 문화의 산물에 대한 인식, 문학의 가치를 구체적 삶과 관련짓기, 문학 작품을 능동적으로 수용하고 지적 쾌락 음미, 언어 사용 기능 신장과 더불어 문예미학적 의사소통 능력 함양, 언어적 표현 능력과 문학적 상상 능력 신장 등을 꾀할 수 있을 것이다. 다음으로 초․중․고등학교 시조 수록 실태와 구현 양상을 알아보았다. 현대시조에 비해 고시조 수록 빈도가 높고, 시조라고 밝히지도 않은 채 독립된 단원 없이 시 단원에 들어 있거나, ‘쉼터’에 편입되어 있는 실정이다. ‘적용의 실제’에서는 한 편의 현대시조를 택해 단계적 독서에 따라 구안하여 보았다.
이 글은 시조교육의 중요성을 일깨우는 한편, 앞으로 개편․보완 될 초등학교 교육과정에 시조 작품이 체계적으로 반영되는데 시사하는 의미가 있으리라 본다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Shijo, which is time-honored unique Korean poetry, is definitely one of primary modern literature genres. Nonetheless, its position in elementary school textbooks is evidently insignificant. Shijo education can serve as one of the ways to let students understand and acquire national sentiment, which is one of the crucial objectives of literary education, since that reveals our unique sentiment, thoughts and feelings better than any other literary genres.
Chapter 2 described the object and value of Shijo education. Shijo education would make a contribution to teaching students to get the right understanding of the overall product of literature, to apply literature to their real lives and to positively accept and enjoy literary works. In addition, that could serve to further their aesthetic communicative competency, verbal expressiveness and literary imagination. Elementary school textbooks were examined to see how many Shijo works were contained in them. And it's found that ancient Shijos were more than modern ones in number, and that they were included in poetry units without making it clear that they were Shijos. In some cases, they were contained in the unit named 'A Resting Place.' To present how Shijo education should be provided, a lesson plan about a selected modern Shijo was mapped out according to sequential reading process.
The effort by this study is expected to raise awareness on the importance of Shijo education and to suggest in which way Shijos should be reflected in future elementary school curriculum.
