저소득 조손가족 조모와 손자녀의 가족관계경험에 대한 질적 연구 = Grandparent-Headed Families in Poverty -a Qualitative Approach Focusing on Family Roles-

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 조부모와 손자녀로 이루어진 저소득 조손가족의 가족관계 경험을 질적으로 깊이 있게 탐색함으로 본질적 의미를 탐구하는 것이다. 본 연구의 참여자는 저소득 조손가족 총 8가족으로 친조모 8명과 손자녀 10명, 총 18명이었으며 자료수집은 심층면접에 의해 이루어졌고, Giorgi의 기술적 현상학적 분석방법을 사용하였다. 분석 결과, 저소득 조손가족조모의 가족관계경험은 “핏줄이어서 어쩔 수 없이 시작된 인연”, “빈곤한 노년에 닥친 양육부담에 회의함”, “온전히 내 책임으로 보듬어 안고 사력을 다함”, “사(死)후 손자녀의 홀로서기를 걱정함”의 4개 구성요소로 나타났으며 손자녀의 가족관계경험은 “엄마할머니”, “엄마의 아들(딸)로 살고픈 나”, “때 이른 홀로서기의 압박”의 3개 구성요소로 나타났다. 세대 간 가족역할 인식의 차이는 조부모는 양육자로서의 역할에서 신체적·경제적 어려움에, 손자녀는 부모에 대한 궁금증과 그리움을 숨기고 살아야 하는 것에 초점이 있었다. 양 세대 모두 가족으로서의 애정과 함께 미래에 대한 불안감이 있지만 정서나 미래계획에 대한 의사소통은 부족해 보인다. 한마디로 본 연구에 참여한 조손가족의 가족관계는 서로를 위해 ‘모르는 척’, ‘괜찮은 척’의 경향이 매우 강한 것으로 나타났다. 하지만, 서로의 존재에 대한 소중함과 부재에 대한 두려움도 동시에 가지고 있었다. 현재의 조손가족이 아동의 영구적 가정보호유형으로 자리잡기 위해서는 가족관계를 중심으로 한 가족기능강화에 초점을 둔 사례관리가 중요해 보인다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study provides an in-depth examination of enduring family relationships between grandparents and grandchildren from low-income grandparent-headed family. Eight families, comprising eight grandmothers and ten grandchildren, were interviewed for the study. Verbatim transcripts of the these interviews were analyzed using Giorgi’s descriptive phenomenological method. The result showed differences between the two generations in how they perceive family role: Grandparents emphasize the physical and economic hardships of bringing up their grandchildren while grandchildren hid their longing for their absent parents, worrying it would taint the relationship with their grandparents. Both parties reported love as a family as well as anxiety about the future, but they did not candidly express their emotions or discuss their future plans with fearing that they might hurt each other’s feeling unintentionally. Both parties reported gratitude for the other’s presence as well as fear at the possibility of the other’s absence. Because this -pretending to be OK” and “pretending not to notice”- game prevents real understanding between the parties, case managers need to put careful and intensive efforts into ensuring that this unique family type succeeds.
