The purpose of this study was to examine the relation of stress and coping behavior of gifted children and general children. The subjects of this study were one hundred and forty three gifted 5-6th graders selected from education centers for gifted children in Daejeon, Gongju, Cheongju and 125 general children attending elementary school in Daejeon. Children provided the rating of the stress and coping behaviors. The data were analyzed by t-test, F-test, Pearson’s correlation. Major findings was as follows : First, the level of stress of gifted and general children didn’t differed in global mean of stress. But there were significant differences in the sub domains. Gifted children tended to exhibit lower level of self-esteem stress than general children. Second, most of children tended to use more switch of mood and problem-focused coping behavior than pursuit of social support and evasive coping behavior. Gifted children tended to exhibit lower level of evasive coping behavior than general children. Third, gifted and general children tended to be high level of switch of mood and evasive coping behavior in the domains of stress. Gifted children tended to exhibit lower level of problem-focused coping behavior to the control-intrusion and self-esteem stresses.
