The purpose of this study is to diagnose the current status and tasks of research on Choi Je-woo around the 200th anniversary of Suun’s birth. Considering the characteristics of Choi Jewoo’s thoughts, we especially focused on research that actively contained modern meaning. As a research method for this, meta-analysis was applied in the ‘research status’ section, and literature research, digital data, and some media reports were used in the ‘tasks’ section.
The contents of this study are: First, a total of 585 papers corresponding to the period from the first paper that appeared in 1961 to November 2023 were extracted using the search terms ‘Suun’ and ‘Choi Je-woo’, and among these, the modern meaning of Suun thought was actively explored. There were a total of 23 studies included. Second, its representative keywords are ‘education’, ‘ecology’, ‘unification’, ‘life’, and ‘human’, and most of these are (re)interpretations of Suun’s Si-Cheon-ju ideology.
The result of this study is that ‘Sicheonju can be reinterpreted as an active form of democracy.’ In short, Sichuanju democracy is, first, a democracy of equality and win-win. This is a case of applying the modern meaning of Sicheonju to human society. Second, Sichuanju democracy is the Jigiism of equality and win-win. This is a case where the meaning of dignity placed in the universe is applied to the entire existence.
