This study surveyed young children assessment activities in kindergardens and day care centers and analyzed teacher's perception of assessment of children. Questionnaires were mailed to 450 public and non-public kindergarten and daycare centers and 130 responses were receives. Major findings were as follows: First, The record of children's development and observation of daily life were the most frequently used method in kindergarten and daycare centers. Second, The kindergarden teacher answerd for the most difficult element of assessment of children is that the high ratio in the classroom. However, daycare center teacher pointed that the lack of instrument. Third, there is no difference on the perceptions of teachers on their assessment activity regard teacher's back ground.
