석주명의 제주어 연구 의의와 과제 = The Significance and task of the Study of Jeju Dialect by Seok, Ju-myeong

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This report focuses on the significance and task of the study of Jeju dialect based on Jeju Island Dialect, Data of Jeju Island and Jeju Island Essays which are parts of A Series of Studies on Jeju Island by Seok, Ju-myeong. He first published a book on dialect as Korean and used a term ``Jeju Language``. Moreover he divided ``Jeju language`` into Southern and Northern Jeju language and compare with other foreign languages. He also wrote some essays on Jeju language. These are why his study is so important and how deeply he was eager to find our language after liberation. As a matter of comparative linguistics, he compared Jeju language with other languages instead of Mogolian and Manchu which are Altaic and it showed his limitation not as a specialist. Etymologies of ``bibari``, ``simbang`` and ``nomppi`` are incorrect as well. These errors are pointed out in this report so it suggests a new task we should take care of. Seok, Ju-myeong, as a pioneer, played an important role in the study of Jeju language in many ways even though he left many tasks we have to solve and demonstrate.
